Fingerprint Technician Training in Kansas

In Kansas, the duties of the fingerprint technician are to examine, search, compare, and identify inked fingerprints from arrests and applicants for identification purposes. They also take inked fingerprints of applicants for various departments, juveniles (per court order), arrested persons  and crime victims for elimination.

Fingerprint technicians also classify and conduct searches of inked fingerprints from applicants and arrests, they investigate cases of false information and record challenges connected with DUIs, other traffic, and city ordinance violation offenses. They prepare written reports and/or criminal history records on the results of inked fingerprint searches as well as performing necessary miscellaneous and data entry work relative to inked fingerprints, preparing and filing index cards and fingerprint cards.

Fingerprint technicians use the ALERT system or CAD / RMS / ARS, prepares and files fingerprint cards, and maintains logs of work performed. They disseminate fingerprint information and provide assistance on inked or livescan fingerprint identification and related matters to outside law enforcement agencies, courts, other department elements and personnel. They review written reports prepared by Identification Technicians and conduct quality control review of work. They also act as the training officer for the Identification Technicians,. conducts or oversees the entry of latent prints into AFIS for search and testifies in court.
